Haunted Evenings

With moving in. Birthday celebrations. Job hunting. The list goes on and on.... You would think Halloween would be able to fit into our busy schedule.  Well stop yourself right there! B/c Halloween is no joke to this Berney family.  We kicked off our Halloween with Angry Bird Pumpkins! I love crafts! I think they turned our pretty good.... don't you?!

Our weekend of Halloween festivities was jammed packed.  It is awesome being in a city that love Halloween just as much as us.  Since we are on a budget this year I decided to refurbish a few of my favorite costumes from years past.  Edie Sedgwick & Dia de los muertos. While Jason made a homemade costume from his favorite movie character, MacGruber.  If you don't know the movie. It is based off a Saturday Night Live skit and is a hilarious take off the popular MacGyver.

Friday Night we joined together with some Denver University Grad Students for a Costume party.  It was fun living like a college kid again.  Hey, 30 ain't gonna stop me.

Saturday night we met up with some more familiar faces.  This time we traveled over to our friend's Jon & Tori's apartment for another costume party!

Another year of GREAT costumes and good company!
Happy HOWL-O-WEEN!!!!!!

Flirty Thirty

So some ten thousand nine hundred and fifty days ago a little girl was born.
 They called her Allison Michelle.

As she grew, she learned to loved so many things. First there was Fraggle Rock. Her favorite stuffed animal, Boober. Ruining piles of leaves that took hours to rake. The handsome Garth Brooks. Corey Feldman. & Zach Morris. and my Best Friend.

___________________________________________________________

By her second decade of existence, her hobbies had morphed. She was a softball player. A flutist. A dancer. A driver. A teenager!!!!

_______________________________________________________________

The third decade of her life was a bit more ambitious. She graduated college. She owned her first, second & third pet. She married. She got her first career.

Now as I look back at all those great decades of life, I cannot thank everyone enough who has played a role in my wonderful life.  You know who you are.  I love each of you so dearly!

It is now time to start a new decade of life. What will this decade hold? I foresee great things!

So let's start with celebrating!

Stay tuned to follow this next journey of life!

Zoobalizoo

In celebration of turning 30, Bern and I took a little trip to the Denver Zoo! It was a gorgeous day.  And the animals were delightfully playful!  I think zoos are always a happier place when the animals have a partner to spend their days with! Of course the Feline section was our favorite.  They had an awesome exhibit of 5 tigers! Two lions. A Snow Leopard (who was a little stubborn and didn't come out of his cave) Plus several more cool cats.

We also saw a giraffe which was a first. And a polar bear.  Penguins. Rhinos. Hippos. Camels. Wolves. Peacocks. Gorillas. (Crazy Gorillas I might mention)  Elephants and my favorite... Red Pandas!

I was so impressed with all of the awesome animals! And I even got some ice cream at the end of the day since I was such a good girl! hehe  Can't wait to go back again.

First Visitor

Just days of completion of our new place, we had our first visitor! Mr. Jacob Dickerson, of Utah! :)

Jake was coming into town with his family for a huge rival MLS soccer game.  I do enjoy soccer yet it is not something follow... but I am not going to turn down a good time! So we joined in on the fun! Jake warned us that the Real Salt Lake fans were NUTS.... and we should have known seeing they were driving 8 hours for an away game!

Jake dressed us head to toe in the RSL garb and we were ready to go! What a trip! It was so exciting.  They were playing the Colorado Rapids who needed the win in order to make it to the playoffs. (RSL had already sealed their playoff spot)  I felt a little guilty not being in Colorado gear.  Can't be a good start to my karma in our new city but I would not DARE show up in rival gear and sitting in the visitor section.  I would have lost my head! The game went 0-0 so just a tie!

It was a very rowdy environment.  Soccer fans are known for songs, scarves, chants and aggressive fans.  RSL did not stray. They were singing and chanting.  Tossing confetti. Even getting ejected from the game.

Since Jake was in for the weekend, we toured around downtown.  Enjoy some tasty brunch at a new place just minutes from our house. We went down to a rollerblading contest which Jake's brother Daniel was competting in.  Quite and experience.  And of course watched the OU/KU football game at the OU bar in Denver, Stony's.

It was an awesome weekend with friends.  We are so excited to have Jake living just hours away from us now! We look  forward to many visits from him... and now... it's your turn to visit... yea, you!

Follow that Bird

One of the most exciting things about living in or near a big city is the concert scene! We were very spoiled with all the great shows we saw in NYC but that was even and hour drive and didn't work out for us much seeing most shows are during the week! (Working getting in the way once again.. hehe) But being in Denver we are just minutes from several GREAT venues.

Now...being so busy with moving in and getting settled, we haven't even thought about booking our calendar with concerts yet... But a little birdie disagreed! As we happen to be driving down Colfax, this bright neon blue sign was glowing at us.  SCREAMING TONIGHT'S SHOW.... NEON INDIAN! Hold the phone.  We have to go!

So we did!

It was 6:30pm as we were driving by and the show started at 8.  (Well First Act started at 8) So we ran home. Checked out tix prices... (dirt cheap, BTW) and made it official.

Now this discovery, Bluebird Theater was muy impressivo if I say so myself.  The best things about concerts in NYC is the intimacy of the whole event.  Being in a room with no more than 200 people all just jamming to your favorite tunes.  This is no Justin Bieber show!  HAHA.

And Bluebird exposed that same vibe it was great.  Not a bad seat in the house and you feel just as if you are just listening to these guys in their garage! It is great!

It was such and awesome find.  And looking forward to all the other great shows this city will offer! HELLO BIG CITY!

Casa De Berney

So October 3rd was a day of excitement and panic. MOVING DAY!

Ever since I watched our POD drive out of our driveway in New Jersey.... I DREADED the moment we had to open that door again.  It was nearly impossible to get the door shut on that darn things.  We stuffed every inch possible and I knew as soon as that door was to open again, it would all come tumbling out!

Well this was true.  That is after we spent 40 minutes getting the door to open! So much had shifted and shuffled around that it wedged the door shut! PANIC!!!!

Even more devasting was that we had movers ready to help us unload, who were naturally "on the clock" and we were sitting here fiddling with the silly door.

But it finally opened and it was a mad dash to pull out everything we could before our time ran out with our ever so helpful movers! We actually found them on www.groupon.com! Such a great deal.  Two movers for two hours for only $89! And they were awesome. We literally got everything moved into our living room in 1.5 hours! IMPRESSIVE.

Now to get everything into place! I had another panic attack worring about where everything would go seeing we left a 4 bedroom house with an acre of land and were now attempting the Loft Style living!

But surprisingly... everything has worked MORE than perfect.  Who would have thought?!  Take a little tour of our place below....

Now video cannot nearly capture everything... which only means you all need to take a visit and see the rest for yourself! We are open anytime! Ski Trip anyone?!

On the Road again

Welcome to Beautiful Colorado.... so the state signs says.  And it's the truth! However, our first trip to Denver was a little more rocky than we expected as our temporary living was in HOTELS! And unfortunately not the nicest hotels.  We spent a week at the ever so classy Best Inn Suites.  But we left day 7 running... it was terrible!

Next we occupied the Loews Hotel in Denver.  A much needed upgrade for our 5 year anniversary! (We were even treated with champagne and strawberries!!)  For our anniversary, we enjoyed a night on the town.  We watched the sunset at the Peak's Lounge in the Grand Hyatt hotel.  Amazing views of the mountains.  We treated ourselves to some yummy treats and cheers ourselves to many more years of adventure and happiness!

So after our two weeks of hotel life, we accomplished a few business items such as finding a place to live and learning the city a little bit.  Only bad thing was that our new home was not going to be available until October 1st.  So we decided it would be best for us financially to head back to OK for some more time with the family.  We headed back to Bartlesville for about 2 more weeks before heading back to Colorado for a very special treat.

The Berney's were so generous to take us on a little vacation out to Aspen.  What better way to enjoy homelessness... haha.  Every trip we have had in Aspen has been gorgeous but this trip was top of the line! The seasons were on the turn so the Aspen Trees were turning a vibrant yellow.  The chipmunks were out with bells on. And we witnessed more nature in 10 days than I could see in 30 years of life! It was incredible.  Jason and I enjoyed our daily golf cart rides around the Roaring Forks Club seeking out little critters and beautiful scenes! We fished. Golfed. Wined & Dined. But nothing will top our hike up to Maroon Bells!   This hike has been something I had been so eager to do but unfortunately during each of our visits it had been too cold or snowy!

And the wait.... well worth it! These views were spectacular! Check out a few photos of the trips.  And yes that is a REAL BEAR! We saw Pikas, Mountain Goats and Bears... OH MY!

It was a great trip to Aspen.  But October is finally here. And we are eager to get back to life.  Get back to our belongings and start this new adventure in our new home!

Farewell Tour De Berney... Next up... VIDEO TOUR of Casa De Bern.

The Calm Before the Storm

Welcome to the new blog.  As I am sure many of you now know we are official residents of Denver, Colorado.  When did all this happen, you may be wondering? But don't worry... Ill catch you up.   Now I know it may October but I am going to backtrack a bit.

Let's flashback to August when this new adventure officially began...

August 11th marked our last day on the east coast.  For months (maybe safe to say a year) now we have been eager for a new path. A new career. A new home.  Several things... and finally the time had come.

Unfortunately, during this time of departure, our adventure was not lead by a new career or home... YET!  But  we were not going to let us stop us from happiness. Our motto was there is no reward without risk.  So risk was our destiny.

Over the summer we tossed around several new cities that would possibly be of keep for the Berney duo.  There was New York City, Austin, Denver, Dallas, and San Francisco.  NYC/SF = too expensive.  Austin/Dallas = too hot... so Denver WON!

We packed up our POD. Bid farewell to our east coast friends (Miss you guys!!) And headed west.

It has been three years since the ol' Maddox (Car) and the chicas (cats) had taken a road trip quite like this.  And with all of our belongs loaded up into the POD which was temporarily stored in New Jersey, we decided to make the most of this time off!

We shipped off from the Garden State and headed west through PA, WV, OH, IN, IL, MO before we reached our first stop on Tour De Berney.... ARKANSAS! Since our time out in New Jersey, our sister Kristin had bought a brand new house in Bentonville, Arkansas and added a new pup to her growing family.  So after 19 hours of driving, we were very excited to see her, Landon, Indie, Addie and the new place.   It was great to be out of the car and in a place of family.  We had a blast.  I had never been to Bentonville before and was throughly impressed with all the fun things it has to offer.  We had some great food.  Played some great arcade games.  Sunk a few holes at Putt Putt.  Shot fireworks in the backyard. And the best part was getting to spend the time with some of our favorite people! It was great!  We stayed through the weekend before heading on to our next stop on Tour De Berney.

Continuing on we headed west again to find ourselves back home.  Our original hometown of Bartlesville, Oklahoma!  And boy were the girls excited to see some familiar stomping ground.  It is always nice to be back in your old room.  With you old pictures and memories.  But I also was enjoying the fact that our car was packed tighter than air sealed jar and we were finally to a place to unload! Packing the pod was not a fun sight... We were forced to get rid of a lot of things just b/c we didn't have the space.  So the car was our "aftershock" stuff job! It has to include all the extras... plus all of the MUST HAVES seeing we were living on the road for an undetermined amount of time! So it was nice to be able unload some of these random items!

Bartlesville was a nice trip.  I immediately ingested 5 days worth of Mexican food.  Yes, I even had some lunch and dinner days.  Remember... Jersey doesn't do MEXICAN so my need for mex is always the first item of business. We checked out the newest club in town... the ol' Big Belly Club.  Which is quite impressive for Bartlesville.  Nice pool tables. Nice dance floor... and only the best bartenders in the state! :)

While we had free time on our hands, we thought it would be a fun idea to head down to Dallas to revisit the home before the last.  So we let Mom babysit the kits while we drove down to D-Town for a weekend of fun.  Our BFFF, Tim Frick was ever so generous to let us stay with him.  We rioted the town just as though we had never left! I got to enjoy an awesome lunch with one of my Best and Oldest friends Mrs. Jennifer Brown. And got to meet her incredibly cute and genius daughter, Kaylen.  This girl sings Boomer Sooner and she is only 2! PRECIOUS! We had a blast hanging with our friends.... Miss you guys a ton!!

After that Vegas style weekend, we headed back to the OK!  But not for long... It was time for us to get our feet wet in Colorado!

See you in Mountain Time!
